A 26 year old woman presents with a severe headache and bilateral severe pain in her hands. On inspection she is febrile and pale. She has a few linear reddish cutaneous lesions on her finger tips but has no facial rash. Her blood pressure is elevated. Urinalysis reveals hematuria, proteinuria, and red blood cell casts. Her serum creatinine is mildly raised. A CT brain scan is normal. A renal biopsy demonstrates evidence of immunoglobulin deposition. The most likely diagnosis is
a) polycystic disease of the kidneys
b) Berger's nephritis
c) systemic lupus erythematosus
